No more excuses NOT to exercise! Just incorporate it into your everyday activities…

Visiting Angels wants to encourage you to EXERCISE! You don’t have to join a gym or buy fancy “As Seen on TV” equipment to exercise. All it takes is a few extra minutes a day to incorporate exercise into your daily activities. It’s especially important for people who are older and more frail to be as independent as possible. Exercise is the best way to increase strength, maintain balance, increase endurance, and stay flexible.

Tips on how to make exercise a daily habit:

  • Keep it short. Exercise in 10 minute sessions.
  • Keep a schedule. A set routine turns into a habit.
  • Keep it comfortable. Wear comfy clothes that you can actually move in (you don’t need to dress in the latest workout gear!).
  • Keep it healthy. If you feel pain when exercising, don’t continue. If you experience chest pain, dizziness, cold sweats, a heart rate that is very rapid even 5-10 minutes after you stop exercising, consult your doctor.

Easy ways to stay active:

  • Gardening
  • Mowing the yard
  • Taking the stairs several times
  • Walking in a mall
  • Walking around the neighborhood
  • Walking your dog
  • Keeping up with your grandchildren
  • Parking & walking farther from a store’s entrance
