Is Your Loved One Safe Living Alone? A Working Assessment Guide for Families

The National Center for Health Statistics1 recently released a report containing many updated figures on life expectancy and aging. Findings in the report discuss that age-related death rates for both men and women are decreasing and that there is a growing trend for an increase in life expectancy.

Aging Successfully in Place: Developing a Care Plan for Staying in the Home
Not long ago it was assumed that once a person started having difficulty living by themselves, they would either move in with family or go to a nursing home care in New Jersey. But times have changed. Today there is a strong trend in the senior community called “aging in place” – seniors choosing to remain in their own homes, either alone or with a full or part-time NJ senior care helper, instead of moving in with family or to a facility situation. According to a recent AARP study, over 80% of people over 50 want to remain at home as they age.1 “Aging in place” is so widely desired because it affords seniors, among other things, more independence, comfort and continued involvement in their communities.

Let an Angel Help You Care for Your Loved One
In a perfect world, you would be able to take care of your aging parent or a disabled or convalescing loved one in your home or theirs, relying only on family to help you. Protecting Older Adults During the Dog Days of Summer
As temperatures and the humidity soar, it is time for everyone to take extra precautions to avoid heat related illnesses. The human body responds to hot weather by increasing blood flow to the skin and sweating. The evaporating sweat carries away excess body heat to help maintain a normal body temperature. When the weather is especially hot, our bodies sweat more and work harder to keep a normal temperature. The combination of high humidity and high temperatures slows down the evaporation of sweat making it difficult for the body to regulate its internal thermometer.
