What’s the secret to living a long and healthy life? Healthy choices can help long before NJ elder care is needed. An article from WebMd offers tips to help keep your body going strong for years.

  • Healthy diet--eat food rich in nutrients and limit your sweets and fatty foods. Plan your meals before you start feeling hungry and grab the chips from the pantry. Try to use healthy ingredients in recipes instead of unhealthy choices (use egg whites instead of egg yolks, for example). Eat smaller portions. Eat more slowly.
  • Exercise–Getting at least 2-1/2 hours of moderate exercise per week is the goal. Do anything that increases your heart rate, such as walking, doing housework or yard work, playing sports. Exercise regularly by finding activities you like to do so you’ll keep doing those activities. Don’t burn out by starting quickly and fading out.
  • Quit smoking–Even if you’ve smoked for years, quitting now is very beneficial to your health. For example, a year without smoking will cut your chances of heart disease in half
