Cindy Williams’ Visiting Angels Commercial

We are thrilled that Cindy Williams is promoting Visiting Angels in 2 new TV commercials! Cindy Williams, as you remember, portrayed Shirley Feeney in Laverne & Shirley, a sitcom which ran from 1976 to 1983. Penny Marshall co-starred as Laverne De Fazio. The series, set in the 1950s, followed the madcap adventures of the two roommates who worked as bottlecappers in a Milwaukee brewery. Williams is not only a renowned actress, she’s also a producer and new author. Her recently released first book is a memoir entitled, Shirley, I Jest!: A Storied Life.

Watch the commercials now by clicking the Visiting Angels image above and/or let us know when you see it during your favorite cable TV show.

For a longer life, your waist size should be half your height

September 8th, 2014 No Comments

Tape Measure

Can waist size determine your longevity?

In the news this week: a new study by City University London has reported that a simple measurement around the waist can help determine if you will live to an average age. If your waist size is at least half your height, you should live to the average life expectancy–about 81. If your waist size is over half, you’re at risk of losing months or years, depending on your age, gender, and waist size.

How to measure your waist: without breathing in, measure between your lowest rib and hip bone.

One of the researchers, Dr. Margaret Ashwell, advises people to use the waist measurement/height method rather than BMI (Body Mass Index). She believes it’s a more reliable predictor of poor health and obesity.

Whether you use BMI or waist measurement, being overweight isn’t good for you or your older loved one’s health. Take time each day to do at least 150 minutes per week of moderate activity. Moderate activity includes walking quickly, swimming, house cleaning, etc.

Exciting news on the horizon for seniors as driverless cars continue to evolve…

Driverless Cars | Autonomous Vehicles

With Google’s prototype of its cute self-driving car last week, excitement continues to build about the real possibility of owning a driverless car. For older people, the freedom a driverless car would afford would be priceless. No longer would many older people—those who are no longer able or willing to drive due to visual or physical impairments—be confined to home, dependent on public transportation, and/or dependent on rides from family and friends. Already being developed by major car companies, driverless cars may be common by 2025, some experts believe.
