Future of retirement homes: hotel chains?

November 16th, 2011 No Comments

Would you consider living in a hotel room in your retirement years? A woman in Virginia did just that, reports CNN (http://bit.ly/umi26q). Joyce Bricker, age 79, recently moved from her Falls Church, Virginia, “home”–a 500 square foot room in the Marriott Towne Place Suites. What makes retirement living so attractive in a hotel? Daily maid service, complimentary breakfast, 24-hour security, and free wi-fi–all for the approximate cost of an apartment (in Bricker’s case, Virginia rents average between $1500-$1700). This isn’t just an isolated incident. A Crowne Plaza in Reading, Pennsylvania, has even advertised to seniors offering a carefree lifestyle (click on ad at right to view a larger image).

As an aside, our NJ senior care “Angels” can be there for you–where ever your home may be!
