9 Ways to Make Seniors Feel Special This Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for young couples in love. It’s a day to show your love and appreciation to all the people in your life. At Visiting Angels, we encourage you to convey your affection to older people!

Check out these enjoyable Valentine’s Day activities to do with your older loved ones:

  • 1. Invite an older neighbor or loved one over for a special afternoon tea party; if she can’t get out, bring the tea party to her!
  • 2. Have your older parents been experiencing cabin fever this winter? Take them to the mall, out to lunch, to a movie, or another place they may have been wanting to visit
  • 3. Play a round or two of cards or board games with them
  • 4. Take them to a local senior center or other social group that’s offering Valentine’s Day activities such as bingo or dancing
  • 5. Bring your older neighbor a Valentine’s Day card, accompanied by candy or homemade cookies
  • 6. Ask to look at their photo albums and encourage them to reminisce as they look through with you
  • 7. If you’re long-distance, give them a call or video chat
  • 8. Invite your older neighbor or friend to a Valentine Card Making Party, even if it’s just the two of you. You’ll both enjoy chatting and making unique cards to send
  • 9. Watch a classic romantic movie on DVD with them–such as Roman Holiday, Casablanca, The Philadelphia Story, An Affair to Remember, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Notorious, Sleepless in Seattle…the list goes on and on!

Most of all, let them know you’re thinking about them and that you care about them. This will put smiles on their faces…and yours!
