November is a month to count our many blessings…and also a month to bring focus on a serious cancer which is the leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women–lung cancer. Awareness can bring prevention and hope. We at Visiting Angels NJ want to help spread the word to help stop lung cancer from affecting our friends and loved ones!

 

 

What Are the Risk Factors?

  • Smoking (causes between 80-90% of lung cancer cases)
  • Secondhand smoke
  • Being around cancer-causing substances (radon gas, asbestos)
  • Medical chest radiation
  • Chronic lung disease
  • Becoming older

Ways Lung Cancer Can Be Prevented

  • Don’t smoke or quit smoking
  • Test your home for radon gas
  • Limit your exposure to medical imaging radiation
  • Always be safe in the workplace if you work with toxic materials
  • Avoid air pollutants and exhaust

  • Some people do not experience symptoms
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chronic coughing
  • Coughing up blood
