Five Ways to Make Holiday Entertaining Easier

Some people are born with the hospitality gene–they seem to make holiday entertaining look like a walk in the park! Perhaps they’re using these five simple ways to keep organized in the kitchen:

  • Plan Ahead. By planning your menus ahead of time, you’ll save time when you shop for the ingredients–no more multiple trips to the grocery. You can even order your ingredients online.
  • Keep It Simple. You don’t need to spend hours in the kitchen. Make easy-to-prepare recipes and give them some special holiday touches such as curries, lemon pepper, and ethnic seasonings (Greek, Cajun, Italian, etc.). Sometimes adding a spice like basil or oregano will jazz up your dish. Try adding Parmesan cheese to your basic mashed potatoes for some tasty flare.
  • Shortcuts are Key. In your pantry, keep a supply of dip mixes on hand for appetizers and snacks. Add the dip mix to low fat cottage cheese and non-fat plain yogurt and blend in a food processor. Serve the dip with pre-cut vegetables for a simple and delicious healthy snack.
  • Always Accept Assistance. If one of your guests offers to help you, say yes! If you’re an NJ elder care family caregiver, your older loved ones can help too, with non-strenuous tasks such as placing napkins or plates on the table. It can be fun working as a team; you’ll be making memories at the same time.
  • Keep it Healthy. It’s possible to modify your traditional dishes to be lower in fat and calories–and still taste good. Your guests will remember your hospitality and great cooking fondly!
